The Power of the Statement Light : 18 Amazing Options To Elevate Any Space

I hope everyone had enjoyed a great 3 day weekend for Memorial Day! It's unnofficially official - Summer is here! And now that it’s here, the calendar is filling up for all the summer activities - which includes lots of home sprucing. It’s bustling over here with some fun new projects that I can wait to share, as well as some home sprucing myself.

And as someone who is perpetually sprucing and designing for clients, I spend a lot of time researching vendors and sources that have those perfect pieces that really make a room. AND wouldn’t you know it, it’s the number one question I get : “Hey, do you know where I can find [insert home item or furnishing]?

So, I thought I would start sharing some of my go to sources and individual favorite items on a more regular basis. Now, next time you wonder where to get [insert the thing you need for your home] you can stop by and see what’s currently coveted on the blog.

Shop Spotlight: HORNE

My first fav source I’m going to share with you is HORNE. What I love about HORNE besides their amazing array of unique, modern minimalist and quality items, is that they really are working against the disposable mentality, and offer authentic and well-made pieces that you can cherish for a lifetime and pass down to your kids (like this iconic Serge Mouille ceiling fixture ). They source their items from artisans and makers that are committed to craftsmanship.

So, if you are looking for that something special to make a room that is well made and can stand the test of time, something that you can’t get at [insert big box store name here], HORNE is your place.

Now, some that HORNE carries are amazing and super cool, like this and this but also not always attainable for everyone to fill their homes with. So this leads me to one of my favorite design secrets to to elevate any space….

Deign TIP: Mix High and Low

Mastering this mix means you can (and should) include one or two statement pieces that you spend a bit more on and truly love, and it will end up elevating the look of the entire space. It also helps you create that highly coveted layered and collected look in a space. No need to go to one [insert name of big box store] and buy the entire “living room set”.

Curate the items in you space with some high (and some low) and you’ll get a truly unique, balanced and interesting space.

Mastering the Mix with Statement Lighting

And to go a little further with the high low mixing, a really easy way to master that mix is with lighting. Lighting creates the mood, brings visual interest, creates a focal point… helps you see😉. Lighting makes (or breaks) a room. For reals. You need good lighting.

With that in mind, I’ve pulled my favorite lighting from HORNE for your online shopping pleasure.

BONUS my friends at HORNE are offering readers and exclusive 10% off any sconce purchased until 6/1. Click here to start shopping and use the code SCONCES10 at checkout

So let’s dive in shall we and illuminate some amazing sconce options. I personally LOVE sconces and they are such an amazing way to really create interest in a space. #5 and#7 are perfect to place above nightstands in the bedroom. #4, #6 or #8 would look great in hallways, or hanging above a styled cabinet or dresser or flanking a bathroom mirror. If you have some built-ins you want to dress up, #5 is a great option. #9 would look perfect in a kitchen above a couple of windows or in a bathroom above a mirror.

Sconces are beautiful in pairs, or flanking some pretty artwork. The swing arm versions #1, #2 and #3 are excellent options for lighting up a reading nook.

Next we have ceiling fixtures. #1 is the perfect antidote for the dreaded builder grade boob light #3 brings in a great olive color and an industrial feel that would be amazing over a kitchen island. #2, and #5 would be really pretty hung in a trio. And #4 or #8 would look great hanging bedside for late night reading, or hung on each side of a mirror in a bathroom instead of wall sconces. #6 and #7 would both be perfect additions above a long dining room table, and #9 is really fun, because there are tons of options to get creative mix and match shade colors, shape, sizes and finishes to find the perfect fit for your space.
