Neutral and Textured Home Office Project
This home office in the Philadelphia suburbs was a challenge because of its small size. Coming in at just about 100 sq feet, space planning for functionality along with smart storage was the highest priority. The design began with a well thought out floorplan that maximized the small footprint, allowed for movement and traffic flow for busy office space, and created a feeling of serenity and calm.
The result is a drastically improved, well-laid out and beautifully serene space to do one's best work. The design started with a neutral and bright backdrop with warm white walls and a slightly darker contrasting trim paint. Because the room is neutral and doesn’t utilize a lot of color, the focus was to design the space with texture throughout. The small space is anchored with a vintage blush and tan rug, a rustic white oak campaign desk, and a statement-making rust-colored velvet office chair. A beautiful modern brass and black articulating sconce hangs above the desk, allowing for task lighting as well as keeping desk space open for work materials. Large scale artwork adds beauty and accentuates the colors of the rug and chair and is framed in warm walnut.
A tall putty-colored glass cabinet is filled with collected vessels, books, greenery, objects and vintage artwork adds height texture and visual interest. A low cabinet complete with upgraded brass hardware adds another surface for work along with much-needed storage, while a pinboard hangs on the wall for added functionality. The entire space feels functional bright, comfortable, and collected.
